Empowering the Next Generation: TCCP Pop Up With Purpose Workgroup Hosts Girl Scout Netiquette Badge Event

On Saturday, January 18, 2025, TCCP's Women In Tech Subcommittee Pop Up with Purpose Workgroup hosted its inaugural event—the Girl Scout Netiquette Badge activity! Held at the Capital Blue Health and Wellness Center in Enola, this event brought together 24 enthusiastic Girl Scout Cadettes (grades 6-8) to learn about the importance of online etiquette and safety.

The activity was led by five dedicated TCCP members—Samantha Knisely, Lori Long, Carol Connor, Sue Engels, and Jill Yocum—who provided valuable insights on making the online world a safer and more positive space. Through engaging discussions and interactive exercises, they emphasized how easily digital communications, such as texting and messaging, can be misinterpreted.

The Cadettes actively participated throughout the event, sharing personal stories of both ‘ouch’ and ‘wow’ moments they’ve experienced online. Their openness sparked meaningful conversations and highlighted the importance of fostering respectful and empathetic interactions in the digital age.

The Girl Scouts event coordinator expressed heartfelt gratitude for the event’s seamless organization and engaging format. The success of this initiative has already inspired the Pop Up with Purpose subcommittee to consider hosting similar volunteer events in the future.

This impactful collaboration between TCCP and the Girl Scouts demonstrates the power of community efforts in empowering young individuals with the tools and knowledge to navigate the digital world confidently. It’s exciting to imagine how these Cadettes will carry these lessons forward, contributing to a kinder and more thoughtful online environment.

Stay tuned for more Pop Up with Purpose events as TCCP continues to make a positive impact in our community!
