Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology is an acclaimed residential two-year college accepting students from throughout the state of Pennsylvania as well as veterans, members of the armed forces, and their families. As an accredited technical college, we are dedicated to preparing students for high-demand careers with family-thriving wages.

Founded as Stevens Trade School in 1905, the school was initially a public institution for orphans of the state who learned a trade combined with academic education. It was begun based on a bequest in the will of Thaddeus Stevens, a statesman who dedicated his life to creating access to education and equity among those who faced injustice. Our mission continues that legacy by focusing on opening doors of educational opportunity to those who might not otherwise have that access, giving students the support and pathway to change their lives and change the lives of coming generations. The College prioritizes academics, student support, as well as direct connections to career pipelines, and mentoring students to become contributors to their communities.

Today, Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology offers affordable two-year associate degrees in 24 programs to more than 1,400 students. In addition, the college offers four 9-month certificate programs as well as six-month and six-week short-term training at our Workforce and Economic Development Center. 98 percent of our degree graduates have a job or are continuing their education upon graduation, earning an average first-year wage of $52,500.

Fun Fact about your College:  The College was founded via a bequest in the will of statesman and philanthropist Thaddeus Stevens, who was instrumental in both establishing public education in the state of Pennsylvania (state leadership was about to vote down the proposal until the powerful oration of Thaddeus changed the tide), as well as the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments to the Constitution, the basis of the Civil Rights movement in America. He died in 1868. In his will, he wrote of the school that should be established: “No preference shall be shown on account of race or color in admission to the school. They shall be fed at the same table.” His fierce advocacy for equity is a legacy still causing ripple effects today.
