Stand Up: A Session on Self-Advocacy for Women in Technology

Tuesday, May 4, 2021 (4:00 PM - 5:30 PM) (EDT)

Description

Many talented women who are technical professionals believe that their good work should speak for itself. These STEM women are reluctant to step up to self-advocate choosing humility over visibility. This workshop explores the multiple benefits and a few risks in getting deserved recognition. Attendees delete the word “brag” and insert teach and educate to celebrate their success stories with confidence and pride. Speaking directly is another hallmark for letting others know about being first, achieving a professional milestone or winning an award. This interactive session includes opportunities to complete pre-session preparation and post-session discussion with peers. Attendees leave with a communication plan to share an accomplishment with key stakeholders when they return to work.

About the Facilitator: Susan Morris is a part of the STEM-UP Network, a community focused on supporting women in STEM by providing them with real-world strategies and relationships that support their ability to flourish, prosper, and advance personally and in their careers.
